The ABB 216DB61 is a dual-function rack-mounted binary I/O module designed exclusively for the ABB REG216 power protection system, responsible for field digital status signal acquisition and controlled trip/interlock output switching for generator and transformer protection schemes. Features 16 galvanically isolated binary input channels for collecting external circuit breaker auxiliary contacts, fault detector status, temperature switch and interlock limit signals, plus 8 dedicated bipolar trip output channels to drive high-reliability protection trip coils, lockout relays and alarm annunciators. Incorporates high-voltage opto-isolation between field wiring and internal protection logic to suppress lightning surges and substation EMI noise. Built-in short-circuit protection on all trip outputs prevents damage from field wiring faults. Channel LED diagnostics enable instant identification of open/closed binary input states and active trip outputs. Communication with REG216 main CPU occurs via proprietary rack backplane parallel bus.
